BIRMINGHAM – The Stillman track and field teams participated in UAB's Spring Invite over the weekend, setting multiple new personal bests in the process. Senior
Carey Owens led the way for the Tigers once again, picking up his second triple jump crown in as many meets.
A week after taking first at the Belhaven Invitational, Owens set a new personal best with a distance of 14.18m (46' 6 ¼"), with teammate
Kentrell Bonner (13.47m/44' 2 ½") setting a PR of his own to earn sixth place. Con'darius McCorvey (12.63m/41' 5 ¼") just missed the podium in the same event but still managed to give Stillman a third of the top nine individuals. Owens would later ad a time of 52.53 in the men's 400, good enough for 22nd overall.
After taking 18th in the men's discus (31.137m/102' 3"),
Caleb Washington placed ninth in the men's shot put, doing so with a throw of 12.25m (40' 2 ¼").
Sendia Cobite (9.68m/31' 9 ¼") and
Taylor Hopgood (9.18m/30' 1 ½") represented the Badgers in the women's shot put, earning 10th and 12th respectively.
Cobite (35.40m/116' 1") came in 10th with a new personal best in the women's discus, as well, with Hopgood (33.47m/109' 9") picking up 14th. Bonner (5.70m/18' 8 ½") and
Cameron Washington (5.03m/16' 6") landed in 17th and 19th respectively in the men's shot put, with
Kerrigan Clark (3.85m/12' 7 ¾") placing 25th on the women's side.
On the track,
Makiyah Thurman gave Stillman a 7th-place finish in the women's 100 behind a time of 12.20, while teammates
Jada Walker (12.84) and Clark (13.63) ended in 17th and 24th.
Cameron Washington placed 16th in the same event for the men, doing so behind a time of 11.29 before following it with another 16th-place mark (22.94) in the 200.
Walker (26.484) finished the women's 200 just .003 seconds ahead of Thurman (26.487) to take 19th place, while Clark (29.46) picked up 26th.
Majesty Folds led the Tigers in the men's 800 with a time of 2:08.95, edging out teammate Pattrezzes Myles (2:08.99) for 19th, with both men turning in a new personal best along the way. Jordan Lewis rounded out the Stillman trio in the event, doing so with a mark of 2:16.69.
Folds (4:48.38) and Lewis (5:04.41) both turned in personal bests in the men's 1500 to take 24th and 25th respectively, with Myles (5:13.37) following in 26th.
The team of
Cameron Washington, Bonners, Owens and McCorvey placed seventh in the men's 4x100 relay with a time of 48.57. Lewis, Folds, Richardson and Myles closed out the meet for the Tigers with a mark of 3:44.67 in the men's 4x400 relay, good enough for sixth place as a team.
Stillman is back in action on Friday, April 3, when they open the two-day Doc Anderson Invitational. The event is hosted by Troy University and will be held at Troy Soccer Complex.
