NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Stillman College junior
Christopher Johnson was the Tigers' lone participant at the Outdoor Music City Challenge over the weekend, finishing in the top eight in both of his events. The meet was hosted by Vanderbilt at the university's Outdoor Track Complex.
Johnson's first event of the weekend was the shot put, where he turned in an eighth-place finish behind a mark of 14.35 meters (47' 1") on his final attempt of the day. He was the top non-Division 1 competitor in the field.
The discus saw Johnson clear 50 meters for the fifth time this spring, as his mark of 54.32m (178' 2") landed him a first-place finish in the event. Earlier this season, Johnson qualified for the NAIA National Championships with a personal best of 54.78m (179' 9") at the Falcon Classic Multi.
Johnson has placed first in the discus in all seven meets in which he has competed this spring, and he will make his second consecutive trip to Nationals. The NAIA National Championships will be held from May 21-23 and will be hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.
