Christopher Johnson Earns HBCUAC Field Athlete of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – After bringing home two gold medals during the HBCU Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships in Shreveport, Louisiana, Christopher Johnson is the Field Athlete of the Week.

Johnson won the discus with a throw of 53.99 meters, which was over 15 meters further than the runner-up. His distance surpassed the 'A' qualifying standard.

He won the shot put with a personal record of 15.17 meters. Johnson holds the second-best throw in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics in the discus at 54.78 meters.

His efforts at the HBCUAC Championships earned Johnson the 2025 HBCUAC Championship Most Valuable Field Athlete honor.

Johnson won the men's discus throw with a toss of 50.37m at the UAB Spring Invite, clearing the competition by nearly five meters. The senior from Meridian, Mississippi, once again cleared the "B" Standard, which would have qualified him for the NAIA National Championship. However, he qualified two weeks ago with a throw of 54.78m at the Falcons Classic in Montevallo.

Previously, he showed his might in the discus with a first-place finish after a throw of 50.78m during the Belhaven Invitational which was also over the NAIA "B" standard.

Johnson won his first honor after Johnson finished first by more than seven meters in the men's discus event at the UWA Invitational. The preseason All-HBCUAC Field Athlete of the Year registered a throw of 47.66m.

Stillman College has a weekend off before traveling for the 2025 Mike McMillan Twilight in Clinton, Mississippi hosted by Mississippi College.
