NEW ORLEANS – For the third time in as many weeks,
Christopher Johnson's effort over the weekend has enabled the senior to win the HBCU Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week.
Johnson again showed his might in the discus with a first-place finish after a throw of 50.78m. The native of Meridian, Mississippi, has already qualified for NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships, but his distance during the Belhaven Invitational was over the NAIA "B" standard.
Last Week, he set the Stillman College program record and a Falcons Classic record with a 54.78m discus throw. The distance was far enough to qualify Johnson for the NAIA Outdoor Championships.
Previously, Johnson won the honor after Johnson finished first by more than seven meters in the men's discus event at the UWA Invitational. The preseason All-HBCUAC Field Athlete of the Year registered a throw of 47.66m.
Stillman College travels to Birmingham, Alabama for the multi-day UAB Spring Invite on March 29-30.
