KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A weekend of historic achievements gave way to a week of special honors as
Christopher Johnson becomes the first Stillman College men's track and field athlete to be named the NAIA Field Athlete of the Week.
Johnson set the Stillman College program record and a Falcons Classic record with a 54.78m discus throw. The distance was far enough to qualify Johnson for the NAIA Outdoor Championships.
The native of Meridian, Mississippi also brought home a first-place finish in the shot put with a hurl of 14.12m, which set a personal record for Johnson.
Previously, Johnson won the honor after Johnson finished first by more than seven meters in the men's discus event at the UWA Invitational. The preseason All-HBCUAC Field Athlete of the Year registered a throw of 47.66m, clearing the second-place finisher Steven Conrad from Mississippi College, who scored 40.33 meters.
Johnson, the HBCU Athletic Conference Preseason Field Athlete of the Year, has named the conference's Field Athlete of the Week the two times the honor has been available to earn.
The Stillman College team returns to action on March 22 in Jackson, Mississippi, at the Belhaven Invitational.
