LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Stillman track and field teams took part in the UWA Invitational on Saturday in the final meet before postseason competition begins.
In the first event of the one-day meet,
Caleb Washington picked up a second-place finish in the men's hammer, doing so with a distance of 25.59m (83' 11").
Sendia Cobite (29.16m/95' 8") picked up second in the women's event, with teammate
Taylor Hopgood (22.01m/72' 2") giving the Tigers two of the top five.
Stillman was heavily represented in the men's long jump, as
Kentrell Bonner (6.30m/20' 8") led the way in third place individually, and
Carey Owens (5.97m/19' 7"),
Cameron Washington (5.93m/19' 5 ½") and Con'darius McCorvey (5.61m/18' 5") came in fourth, fifth and seventh respectively.
Jada Walker posted a mark of 4.55m (14' 11 ¼") to finish in 11th place for the Stillman women, and teammate
Kerrigan Clark (3.89m/12' 9 ¼") landed in 15th.
Cobite turned in her second top-two finish of the day after a toss of 10.79m (35' 4 ¾") in the women's shot put, followed by Hopgood (10.49m/34' 5" in fourth and Clark (8.60m/28' 2 ¾") in eighth.
Caleb Washington added a third-place mark in the men's shot put, with his final attempt of the day coming in at 12.02m (39' 5 ¼").
Washington later came in second in the men's discus behind a mark of 33.04m (108' 4"). Cobite (36.31m/119' 1") and Hopgood (36.20m/118' 9") took home two of the top three spots in the women's event.
Owens (13.41m/44') and Bonner (13.29m/43' 7 ¼") gave Stillman a 1-2 punch in the men's triple jump, and the latter went on to lead a Tiger trio in the men's javelin with a toss of 44.65m (146' 6") to earn third place. Clark (18.72m/61' 5") and Hopgood (17.87m/58' 7") wrapped up the field events for the Tigers, taking sixth and eighth respectively.
Stillman's first event on the track was the 4x100m relay, where Bonner, Owens,
Demetrius Williams and
Cameron Washington turned in a fourth-place finish with a time of 43.61. The men's 1500 followed, with
Majesty Folds (4:47.34) came in sixth place and teammate Jordan Lewis (5:02.80) finishing in eighth.
Cameron Washington turned in an eighth-place finish in the men's 100 behind a time of 11.39 before taking ninth in the 200 at 23:03. Walker (12.71) picked up 11th in the women's 100 and later took seventh in the 200 after winning a tiebreaker with a time of 26.363.
In the men's 800, Folds (2:08.70) came in 11th place, with Lewis (2:22.89) following in 15th.
