Stillman XC competes at Firehawk Invitational

DANVILLE, Ala.  – The Stillman College cross country programs took part in the Firehawk Invitational on Saturday, an annual event hosted UT Southern at Oakville Indian Mounds Park. The Tiger men came in 14th place as a team, while four individuals represented the Stillman women.
Freshman Breland Armstead turned in a new season-best to lead the Tigers in the men's 8K, doing so with a mark of 28:25.5 to earn 48th place. He has now been Stillman's top individual finisher in back-to-back meets, and Saturday saw him shave more than a full minute off his previous collegiate-best.
Majesty Folds (34:56.8) was the next Tiger across the finish in his Stillman debut, followed by Kenneth Richardson II (36.49.5). Con'darius McCorvey and Kentrell Bonner rounded out the scoring for Stillman, doing so with marks of 39:43.3 and 39:44.2 respectively.
On the women's side, the four Stillman runners finished within four places of one another, with sophomore Sarah Gordon leading the way with a new career-best time of 36:00.8. Makiyah Thurman matched Gordon step for step, coming away with the same time in her first career 6K.
Saturday marked the first career 6K for fellow freshmen Jada Walker (37:33.5) and Shynne' Thorpe (31:41.7) , as well, with the duo turning in strong performances.
The Tigers are next in action on October 4, when they head to Clinton, Mississippi to compete in the Belhaven Invitational at nationally renowned Choctaw Trails.
