TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College Athletics celebrated its 2022-2023 student-athletes on Monday, April 25 with its annual Student-Athlete Appreciation Day at Tiger Stadium.

The event, which was organized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), featured food from Metz Catering, Billy's Cooking, and Rita's Italian Ice. 

"We don't take for granted as coaches and administrators the effort that you give and your presence," Athletic Director Terrance Whittle told the student-athletes. "This (event) is an extension of our love for you, our care for you, and how we appreciate what you do, not just on the field but in the classroom. We are thankful that you are committed to being great student-athletes to represent Stillman College."

Prior to the individual student-athlete awards, the SAAC took a moment to recognize President Cynthia Warrick and numerous support staff. Members of the SAAC also selected and recognized a department-wide Head Coach of the Year (Joel Penfield, Softball) and Assistant Coach of the Year (Rashad Webster, Baseball).

Each coaching staff presented four awards for their team: Coaches Award, Tiger Award, Unsung Hero and Most Valuable Player (MVP). Stillman also honored 82 student-athletes for academic excellence for being named to the President's List, Dean's List or Honor Roll for the fall semester.

Award Descriptions
Coaches Award - Presented to a student-athlete who is a leader, hard worker, understanding the difficult decisions, always learning and improving upon themselves (game) and an overall extension of the coach.


Tiger Award - Present to a student-athlete who should exhibit sportsmanship, promote values, ethical play, commitment to the team/school/themselves and participate in community service.


Unsung Hero - Presented to a student-athlete whose play may or may not have translated into competition, but made many contributions to the team and was integral to their overall success.
