Box Score MARIETTA, Ga. - Stillman College dropped a Southern States Athletic Conference road game Tuesday night at Life University, 75-69.
Jamar Jackson and
Khalil Johnson scored 15 and 11 points to lead the Tigers.
Derrick Finklea was held to seven points, while grabbing eight rebounds.
The Tigers chipped away at a 40-31 hole early in the second half.
Khalil Johnson hit a 3 to give Stillman its only lead of the second half, 44-43, with 12:26 to play.
Derrick Finklea tied it at 52 with 8:29 to play in the game. Life answered with a 7-0 run to create distance and maintained its lead the rest of the game.
Stillman worked the deficit to five points, 66-61, on a
Tomias Brand dunk with 1:35 to play. It became a 10-point game with 30 seconds to play, 71-61. Brand scored six points and
Devin Merriweather added two in the final 30 seconds to attempt to pull Stillman closer, but Life hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
The Tigers were held to 40% shooting in both halves of the game. The widest difference came at the free throw line. Stillman was 4-of-8 at the stripe, while Life made 14 of 21 tries.
Life was led by Joshua Ward's 18 points. Mohamed Elgohary followed with 16 points, Dara Olanade scored 14 and Shomik Shahjahan had 10 points.
Stillman (14-11, 10-7) and Life (17-7, 10-7) are now even in the SSAC standings, tied in fifth place. Three games remain in the regular season, with Loyola University coming to Birthright Alumni Hall on Thursday, Feb. 9 for a 7:30 p.m. tip on Greek Night.
