Hot Tigers Keep Streak Alive, Defeat Rust 73-61

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Make it eight in a row for the Stillman College men's basketball team as the Tigers close the regular season grandly with a 73-61 victory over the Rust College Bearcats Saturday in Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference action.

Stillman College closes the season 18-9 overall and 10-2 in HBCUAC East Division play. 

Rapid Recap:

Rust led briefly, jumping out toa 6-2 lead with 15:43 on the clock, but the Tigers stormed back and tied the game with an Allister Dixon layup. Stillman then took the lead with a jumper from Brandon Howard with 14:29 left, moving the score to 8-6.

Stillman steadily built the lead throughout the first half. The Bearcats were close, down three points. 13-10, at the 10:42 mark, but the Tigers worked to a 12-point lead following a layup from Joshua Price with 2:07 left, going up 35-23. Rust hit a shot to move the margin to 35-25 heading into the half. 

The Tigers dominated in the second half and built a monumental 19-point lead with 8:08 on the clock, following a Price layup, making the score 60-41. Rust cut the lead to 10 at 71-61 with 43 seconds left, but free throws from Dixon put the game on ice as Stillman sealed a 73-61 road win to end the regular season. 

Notes and Numbers:
  • Joshua Price led with 24 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. The senior from Huntsville, Alabama, posted six 20-point games this season. 
  • Dasean Sellers reached double-digits for the 16th time with 17 points. 
  • Make it five double-doubles for Allister Dixon as the senior posted 10 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Brandon Howard matched Dixon on the boards with 10 rebounds.

The Tigers will await the release of the 2026 Hope Credit Union Basketball Championship Tournament bracket to determine their next opponent. The postseason tournament is hosted by Visit Tuscaloosa and Stillman College in Birthright Alumni Hall.
