Volleyball Earns First Win of Season in BP Invitational

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — The Stillman College volleyball team split two matches Saturday, sweeping Wesleyan College before falling to Truett McConnell in five sets at the Brewton-Parker Invitational Tournament in Gillis Gymnasium. 

Stillman (1-3) opened the day with a 25-16, 25-13, 25-8 win over Wesleyan. The Tigers hit .220 with 22 kills and 13 errors on 41 attacks.

Ava Cameron led Stillman with seven kills on 10 attacks and added two blocks and a block assist. Brianna Moore had five kills on five attacks and added three service aces. Eva Stewart finished with four kills, four aces, two block assists and a solo block.

Stillman controlled the match from the start, winning each set by at least nine points. The Tigers held Wesleyan to 12 kills and a negative hitting percentage.

Stillman then pushed Truett McConnell to five sets before falling 25-16, 25-17, 24-26, 23-25, 15-10. The Tigers recorded 54 kills across the five-set match but hit .011, committing 31 attack errors on 90 attempts.

Cameron led Stillman with 10 kills on 23 attacks and hit .304. She also recorded a solo block, two block assists and finished with 12 points. Moore added seven kills, two block assists and a solo block.

Makasia Crawford contributed four kills and two solo blocks, while Stewart had four kills, two block assists and a solo block. Shelby Morris recorded six service aces.

The Tigers return to action Thursday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. against Miles College in Fairfield. Stillman hosts the United States Sports University Eagles for the home opener on Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. in Birthright Alumni Hall.
