Stillman Dominates to Earn Series Sweep over Wiley

MARSHALL, Texas — The Stillman College softball team used aggressive baserunning and a 13-hit offensive attack to defeat the Wiley University Wildacats 10-3 on Friday at Smith Park to earn an HBCU Athletic Conference series sweep.

Stillman (6-16, 4-2 HBCUAC) scored in four of the first seven innings and swiped multiple bases while taking advantage of timely hitting to secure the win.

Stillman set the tone immediately in the first inning with aggressive baserunning. Alex Erwin singled and stole second before Lily Stone singled and also stole a base. Avary Lumpkin followed with a two-run single down the left-field line, bringing home Erwin and Stone. Moments later, Lumpkin scored on Katelyn Lankford's fielder's choice RBI to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Wiley answered with a run in the bottom of the first, but Stillman struck again in the second. Addison Nuspl reached and stole second before Erwin singled to move her to third. A sacrifice bunt by Stone allowed Erwin to score while Nuspl crossed the plate on a throwing error. Later in the inning, Lumpkin doubled and came home on another RBI fielder's choice by Lankford, pushing the lead to 6-1.

The Tigers continued to apply pressure in the third inning. Addison Seale was hit by a pitch, and Nuspl worked a walk before Erwin singled to load the bases. Stone drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in Seale, and Nuspl scored on Lumpkin's sacrifice fly as Stillman extended the advantage to 8-1.

Wiley plated two runs in the bottom of the third, but Stillman added insurance in the fourth. Lankford walked and later scored when Nuspl lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, making it 9-3.

After a scoreless stretch in the middle innings, Stillman added its final run in the seventh. Lumpkin doubled and was replaced by Molly Neal as a pinch runner. Neal advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Olivia Hobson's RBI single to cap the scoring at 10-3.

Stillman finished with 13 hits, led by Erwin, who went 4-for-5 with two runs scored. Lumpkin delivered three hits, two doubles, and three RBIs, while Anna Sullivan added three hits and a double. Stone drove in two runs and scored once.

The Tigers were aggressive on the bases, recording multiple stolen bases, including two by Erwin and two by Nuspl, while Stone, Sullivan, and Lankford each added steals.

Karli Crocker earned the complete-game victory, allowing five hits and three runs over seven innings while striking out two and walking three.
