TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Stillman women's basketball closed out a strong fourth quarter Wednesday afternoon to secure a 70-65 win over Arkansas Baptist University inside Birthright Alumni Hall.
The Lady Tigers leaned on balanced scoring and a decisive edge on the glass, outscoring the Lady Buffaloes 21-14 in the final period to pull away in a tightly contested conference matchup.
Senior guard Mya Jones led all scorers with 19 points, shooting 9-of-13 from the field while adding seven rebounds and an assist in 33 minutes of action. Off the bench, Chayse Matthews delivered a key spark with 17 points, knocking down four three-pointers and going 3-for-6 at the free throw line to help Stillman stretch the lead late.
Stillman finished with a 49-31 rebounding advantage, including 16 offensive boards that led to second-chance opportunities throughout the afternoon. Danyjhia Williams pulled down a team-high six rebounds, while Tyeesha Slaughter and Mya Jones each added seven boards.
The Lady Tigers also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 26 points off Arkansas Baptist miscues while holding the Lady Buffaloes to just seven points off turnovers. Stillman's defense forced 19 turnovers and recorded eight steals, with Jada Minter and Jordan Harris each contributing key defensive stops down the stretch.
Stillman shot 43.1 percent from the field for the game and limited Arkansas Baptist to 35.3 percent shooting in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
