Tigers Drop Road DH at UTS

PULASKI, Tenn. — The Stillman College softball team traveled to face the University of Tennessee Southern Firehawks on Tuesday at Royce Hughes Field. However, UTS came out on fire and defeated the Tigers, 12-1, in the first game and 15-0 in the second match-up, both in five innings.

Game 1 - UTS 12, Stillman 1 (5 innings)

Olivia Hobson went 1-for-2 and scored Stillman's lone run. Katelyn Lankford finished 1-for-1 and reached again after being hit by a pitch. Stillman drew two walks and struck out four times as a team.

Jasmine Wade (0-3) started and worked three innings, allowing six runs on nine hits with two walks. Faith Byram pitched the fourth inning, giving up six runs on three hits with two walks and one strikeout.

Tennessee Southern took control early with a run in the first and added two in the second and three more in the third to build a 6-0 cushion.

Stillman threatened in the third when Lankford was hit by a pitch, moving into scoring position, but the Tigers couldn't capitalize.

The home team broke the game open with six runs in the fourth.

Stillman answered in the fifth. Hobson singled to start the inning and moved to second on Lankford's single to right center. After a fielder's choice put runners on the corners, Addison Nuspl stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher, allowing Hobson to score an unearned run to make it 12–1.

Game 2 - UTS 15, Stillman 0 (5 innings)

Makynli Kidd went 2-for-2 to lead the Tigers at the plate. Avary Lumpkin and Anna Sullivan both went 1-for-2.

Karli Crocker (0-3) started for Stillman and worked two innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Michaela Otts pitched the final two innings, recording two strikeouts while allowing eight runs on eight hits.

Stillman threatened early in the first inning when Lumpkin singled to left field, and Sullivan followed with a single to center, giving the Tigers two aboard with two outs. The rally ended on a lineout to first to keep the game scoreless.

In the second, Kidd singled up the middle with two outs but was stranded.

Stillman again put a runner on in the fifth when Kidd singled through the right side and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A walk by Jazlynn Sulton brought the tying run to the plate, but Tennessee Southern recorded back-to-back outs to end the threat.

Tennessee Southern built its lead with two runs in the first inning and pulled away with five runs in both the second and third innings before adding three more in the fourth
