TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Stillman College softball team rallied late in both games but dropped a doubleheader to Dillard University on Saturday in Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference action, falling 6-4 in Game 1 and 8-4 in Game 2.
Stillman showed late offensive life in each contest, scoring seven combined runs in the final two innings across the twin bill.
Game 1 — Dillard 6, Stillman 4
Jasmine Wade started for Stillman and worked 3.2 innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on nine hits with one walk.
Karli Crocker provided relief, tossing 3.1 innings and allowing two runs while striking out two, keeping the Tigers within striking distance.
After two scoreless innings, Stillman got on the board in the third.
Makynli Kidd worked a walk and moved into scoring position before coming home on
Lily Stone's RBI single, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
Stillman threatened again in the fourth when a pitch hit
Olivia Hobson, and
Gracie Fjeldstad doubled down the left-field line to put runners in scoring position, but the Tigers were unable to bring a run across.
Trailing 6-1 entering the seventh, Stillman mounted a late rally. Fjeldstad reached and later scored on a passed ball, making it 6-2. Kidd and
Alex Erwin then crossed the plate on
Avary Lumpkin's two-run single down the left-field line, trimming the deficit to 6-4. The Tigers put additional runners aboard but could not complete the comeback.
Stillman finished with four hits and drew six walks in the opener.
Game 2 — Dillard 8, Stillman 4
Faith Byram started and pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) while keeping Stillman within reach through the middle innings. Crocker followed in relief, striking out two over 1.1 innings, and Michaela Otts recorded the final out of the seventh.
Dillard built an early lead before Stillman responded late.
Stillman broke through in the sixth inning.
Rachael Bowman reached and scored on Fjeldstad's RBI single, getting the Tigers on the board. Moments later, Fjeldstad came home on Erwin's RBI single, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
Dillard answered with a four-run seventh, but Stillman again rallied in the bottom half.
Molly Neal advanced to third before scoring alongside
Addison Nuspl on Kidd's RBI groundout, bringing the score to 8-4. The Tigers could not add more despite putting runners on base.
Stillman collected nine hits in the nightcap, with Erwin and Lumpkin each recording multiple hits.
