TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Stillman controlled the game from the opening tip, pulling away early and cruising to a 75-49 HBCU Athletic Conference win over Voorhees University on Thursday night at Birthright Alumni Hall.
Stillman improved to 9-7 overall and 6-2 in league play, using a fast start and a dominant third quarter to pull away. The Tigers held Voorhees to five points in the opening period, building a 16-5 lead after one, then carried a 35-20 advantage into halftime.
The game broke open coming out of the locker room. Stillman outscored the Tigers of Voorhees 23-7 in the third quarter, stretching the margin to 58-27 and taking full control the rest of the way.
Banks, playing her first game back in three years, provided a steady presence on both ends, pairing her 11 points with a team-best nine boards in 24 minutes. She shared team-high scoring honors with
Mya Jones, who also scored 11 while adding two steals and two assists.
Jaida Minter chipped in nine points as Stillman leaned on balanced production throughout the night.
Danyjhia Williams stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds and four assists, helping Stillman control the glass, 49-37. The Tigers shot 42.9 percent from the field and knocked down six 3-pointers to keep pressure on the visitors.
Voorhees (5-10, 2-6) was led by Sommer Joseph's 16 points and eight rebounds, but Stillman's defensive effort limited the visitors to 35.0 percent shooting on the night.
Up next, Stillman returns to Birthright Alumni Hall on Saturday for the History Meets Hardwood Classic rivalry game against Talladega College at 1 p.m., as the Tigers look to reclaim the trophy.
