TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Stillman College volleyball team played host to the visiting Fisk University Bulldogs in Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon in Birthright Alumni Hall. Fisk was able to come away with a 3-1 (25-6, 25-16, 22-25, 25-13) win in the match.
The loss dropped Stillman to 2-10 on the season and 1-3 in HBCUAC action, but the Bulldogs improved to 15-5 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
Ava Cameron led the Tigers with nine kills and five blocks.
Raine Patterson,
Domineshia Jones and
Brianna Moore all posted four kills. Jones led in two categories with 14 assists and 11 digs.
Fisk came out on fire in the opening set and opened with an 11-1 edge and powered to a 25-6 win in the opener.
In the second set, the Bulldogs and Tigers battled early, with
Raine Patterson collecting a kill to force a tie at 4-4. Stillman stayed within two points until a service ace from Nialah Gupton pushed Fisk to a 14-11 lead. From there, the Bulldogs maintained some distance on the way to winning the game 25-16.
Fisk led early in the third as the team jumped to a 5-0 advantage and later led 15-11. However, the Tigers crept back into the match and tied the contest at 17-17 following a kill from
Ava Cameron. Another kill from Cameron, an ace from
Raven Marks and an attack error by the Bulldogs put the Tigers ahead 20-17. Stillman maintained a two-point lead before claiming a 25-22 game victory.
In the fourth, a kill from
Paige Eason tied the set at 5-5; however, Fisk put together a five-point run to go up 10-5. From there, the Bulldogs built and maintained an advantage on the way to a 25-13 game victory and to win the match 3–1.
Stillman College embarks on a six-match road run starting on Friday, October 3, at 6 p.m. in Holly Springs, Mississippi, against Rust College.
