FAIRFIELD, Ala. – The Stillman College volleyball team and the Miles College Golden Bears once again battled in another five-set thriller, where Miles College came out on top (23-25, 27-25, 25-22,18-25,15-13) to sweep the season series Tuesday night in Knox-Windham Gymnasium.
Stillman falls to 2-10 on the season, while the Golden Bears move up to 9-8 overall.
The Tigers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opener after a kill from
Katelyn Lawson; however, Miles battled back to close the gap to 9-9 and take as much as a 12-10 advantage. Stilman and Miles tied or changed the lead 10 times before the Tigers took the lead for good after a service ace from
Shelby Morris to move the score to 23-22. Stillman went on to claim a 25-23 win in the first set.
In the second set, neither team ever led by more than two points. The Tigers held a 25-24 lead after an attack error by Miles, but the Golden Bears scored three straight points to win the second 27-25.
Stillman got off to a strong start after an error from Miles put Stillman up 8-1. However, the hosting Golden Bears rallied with seven straight points to tie the match at 8-8. The lead got up to 12-9 for Miles before the Tigers rallied, and an ace by
Kelis Conley tied the game at 13-13. Unfortunately, the Golden Bears took the next point and never relinquished the lead in the set before claiming a 25-23 win.
The Tigers left no doubt in the fourth and raced to a 9-0 advantage and eventually went up 11-1 following an
Ava Cameron kill. Stillman posted nine kills, five aces and a pair of blocks in the game to collect a 25-18 win to force a fifth and deciding set.
In the fifth, Stillman and Miles battled back and forth all the way to a 13-13 tie following another Cameron kill. However, the Golden Bears scored the final two points of the set to win the game 15-13 and claim the match 3-2.
Paige Eason led the way with 13 kills, while Cameron had 11 kills and
Katelyn Lawson posted nine kills. Conley passed 17 assists, and
Raven Marks posted 11 assists and four aces. Morris added six aces.
Zoey Sales led the back row with 20 digs and Morris added 12 digs.
