Volleyball Comes Up Short against Dega in HBCUAC Action

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Stillman College volleyball team took the opening set, but the hosting Talladega College Tornadoes battled back to claim three consecutive sets to earn victory Thursday night in Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference action in the Hawkins Student Activity Center. 

Stillman fell to 2-11 overall and 1-3 in the HBCUAC, and Talladega improved to 4-8 on the season and 3-1 in conference competition.

The Tigers won the first set 27-25, but the Tornadoes won the next three games 25-21, 25-16, and 25-20. 

Katelyn Lawson led a balanced Tiger attack with eight kills and added seven digs. Raven Marks passed 18 assists with Kelis Conley adding 10 assists and three service aces. Zoey Sales anchored the back row with 13 digs, and Gracie Fjeldstad posted 11 digs. 

Taquoia Rounds posted 13 kills to lead the match. Kortni Johnson added 10 for the Tornadoes. Laela Price kept the Dega offense moving with 33 assists. Briyith Echeverri provided 25 digs, while Sha'Niya Cribbs added 19 digs. 

Stillman College will have over a week off before continuing the road stretch on October 17 against Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, starting at 6 p.m.
