TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Despite the 19-game win streak ending, the Stillman College softball team battled back in game two to split the doubleheader against the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers Thursday afternoon. Tuskegee won game one 3-1, but the Tigers captured game two 11-6.
GAME ONE - Tuskegee 3, Stillman 1
Kaeley Roldan registered a sacrifice fly in the top of the first for the Golden Tigers for a brief lead.
In the bottom of the first,
Avary Lumpkin reached on a fielder's choice for an RBI as
Lauren Haskins scored to tie the game 1-1.
However, in the fourth, Tuskegee pushed across two more runs capped by an RBI single from Tamiya Martin to push the lead to the final 3-1 tally.
Avary Lumpkin finished 1-for-2 and had the lone RBI for Stillman.
Lauren Haskins posted a 2-for-4 effort at the plate with three steals and a run scored.
Jasmine Wade (10-2) pitched a complete game with four strikeouts.
GAME TWO - Stillman 11, Tuskegee 6
Tuskegee took the early lead again in the first inning with a bases-loaded walk to bring Jessica Morales home.
Stillman responded in the bottom of the first when
Madison Bubel reached on a fielder's choice for an RBI as Haskins scored to the game 1-1.
Haskins broke the game open in the second inning with the combination of a two-RBI single to left field combined with an error that allowed
Gracie Fjeldstad,
Alex Erwin,
Karli Davidson and Haskins to all score and push the lead to 5-1. Bubel capped the big inning with an RBI single to left field as
Lily Stone came home to go up 6-1.
The Golden Tigers posted a three-run fourth inning and added another in the fifth after Martin scored to cut the lead to 6-5.
In the bottom of the fifth,
Anna Sullivan singled through the left side to knock in Carter. Haskins added to the run total with a single up the middle for two runs as Erwin and Davidson scored.
Stillman added to the lead in the sixth with
Katelyn Lankford singling up the middle to knock in
Molly Neal. Davidson followed with a single down the left-field line to bring in
Carolyn Carter to move the score to 11-5.
Tuskegee added a run in the seventh with an RBI single from Carole Ross, but Stillman held on to win 11-6 for the doubleheader split.
Haskins finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Bubel posted a 2-for-4 effort with two RBIs. Carter notched a steal and two runs with a 2-for-4 effort from the plate.
Faith Byram (10-5) pitched a complete game with a strikeout.
Stillman College will have a few days off before traveling to Montgomery, Alabama, to face old conference foe Faulkner University on April 15 starting at 1 p.m.
