MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Stillman College softball team stepped out of conference play for a road doubleheader against the Faulkner University Lady Eagles this afternoon. Unfortunately, the Tigers fell in both games, losing the opener 5-1 and dropping the second contest 5-3.
GAME ONE - Faulkner 5, Stillman 1
Neither team posted any runs until the bottom of the third when Faulkner posted three runs in the frame.
Stillman responded in the top of the fourth with a solo homer from
Avary Lumpkin to help the Tigers avoid a shutout.
However, the Lady Eagles responded with runs in the fourth and sixth innings to pull away and hand the Tigers a 5-1 defeat to open the day.
Alex Erwin finished game one 2-for-3, while Lumpkin had the only extra-base hit and RBI with the home run.
Jasmine Wade (10-3) went four innings in the start and posted a strikeout.
Mackenzie Smith threw two innings and limited the Lady Eagles to three hits.
GAME TWO - Faulkner 5, Stillman 3
The Lady Eagles struck early and pushed to a 5-0 advantage with three runs in the first and a run each in the second and third innings.
Stillman rallied in the top of the sixth starting with a
Carolyn Carter single through the right side to knock in
Chaluncie Denny.
Madison Bubel reached on an error but received credit for an RBI as
Ariana Lopez scored.
Karli Davidson capped the comeback attempt with a double to left field to knock in Carter to close the gap to 5-3.
However, the Tigers could not push across a run in the seventh and fell 5-3 to Faulkner.
Lily Stone posted a 2-for-4 effort with a double, Davidson posted a double, and
Lauren Haskins was credited with a stolen base.
Faith Byram (10-6) pitched three innings in the start with a strikeout.
Avary Lumpkin went three innings as well in relief and only allowed three hits.
Stillman College returns to action Thursday with a doubleheader against the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama, starting at noon.
