Box Score HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – The Stillman College softball team used a big third inning to put away the Rust College Lady Bearcats on the road in HBCU Athletic Conference action 15-3 in five innings Monday afternoon.
Lauren Haskins started the party using her quickness and mistakes by Rust to turn a bunt single into a score. Later,
Madison Bubel grounded out, but the at-bat allowed
Carolyn Carter to score.
After Rust added two runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game 2-2, the Tigers opened the big third inning as
Lily Stone scored on an error. Bubel singled to center field as Carter came in to score.
Avary Lumpkin followed with a triple to right to bring in Buble.
Alex Erwin then hit a single to center as Lumpkin touched home.
Makyleigh Hollinger singled through the right side which allowed Erwin to score. Haskins wrapped the big inning with a triple to center field as Hollinger came in to score and move the tally to 8-2.
Erwin pushed the lead to 11-2 in the fourth with a triple to left field that knocked in Lumpkin and Casie Willis, and thanks to an error in left field Erwin scored on the play.
The lead continued to balloon in the fifth with another RBI for Bubel who drew a walk to let Lopex score.
Anna Sullivan grounded into an RBI as
Molly Neal scored.
Gracie Fjeldstad wrapped Stillman's scoring with a single to center field to bring home Bubel and Carter to move ahead 15-3.
Rust added a run in the fifth, but the damage was done as the Tigers collected a 15-3 victory.
Erwin led the way as she went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. two runs scored, a triple, a walk, and a stolen base. Bubel went 1-for-2 with a walk and three RBIs. Haskins and Lumpkin both hit triples.
Mackenzie Smith picked up the complete game win with a strikeout.
Double header recap:
The Tigers defeated Rust College Sunday in both games of the HBCUAC doubleheader 13-4 in five innings in game one and 10-5 in the second contest.
Katelyn Lankford finished game one 4-for-4 from the plate with two RBIs.
Carolyn Carter went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three doubles.
Lily Stone grabbed two RBIs on 2-for-4 hitting.
Jasmine Wade pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts.
Then in game two, Stone and Lankford shined again as Stone posted three RBIs on 3-for-4 hitting with a double and a triple, and Lankford posted three RBIs on a 2-for-4 effort at the plate with a stolen base.
Buble and
Karli Davidson both registered doubles and Haskins stole a pair of bases.
Faith Byram pitched five innings to earn the win, while Lumpkin finished the final two innings with a strikeout.
Stillman College returns to action on March 22 for an HBCUAC doubleheader against Voorhees starting at 1 p.m. Before the first pitch, the seniors will be honored for their dedication to the program.
