NORTHPORT, Ala. – The Stillman College softball team pressed on the Oakwood University Lady Ambassadors early and came away with a 17-0 win in five innings to advance in the HBCUAC Softball Championship on Saturday evening at River Run Park.
Stillman wasted no time getting on the board in the first as Lily Stone created early pressure, stealing second, advancing to third on an error, and scoring to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers added on in the second when Alex Erwin delivered a two-run single, scoring Addison Seale and Makynli Kidd to extend the lead to 3-0.
Stillman broke the game wide open in the third with a nine-run inning fueled by aggressive baserunning and Oakwood miscues. Avary Lumpkin scored on a fielder's choice before Kidd followed with an RBI single. Addison Nuspl added another run with a base hit, and Stone drove in a run while reaching on a fielder's choice as additional errors allowed multiple runs to cross the plate. Lumpkin later reached on an error that brought home two more runs, and Anna Sullivan capped the surge with an RBI single. Katelyn Lankford reached on an error to plate another run as Stillman built an 11-0 advantage.
The Tigers kept rolling in the fourth. Nuspl doubled in a run, Sullivan followed with a two-run single, and Lankford delivered a two-run triple. Olivia Hobson added an RBI single to push the lead to 17-0.
Stillman's baserunning consistently pressured Oakwood's defense, highlighted by stolen bases from Stone, Hobson, Kidd (two), and Nuspl, along with multiple extra bases taken on errors.
Sullivan led the offense with three hits and three RBIs, while Lankford added two RBIs and Nuspl contributed two hits and two RBIs. Erwin also drove in two runs in the early innings.
In the circle, Faith Byram was dominant, tossing a one-hit shutout over five innings while striking out five.
