TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No team in Stillman College women's basketball history has won as many games as the 2024-25 squad as the Lady Tigers won for the 21st time this season thanks to an 89-56 victory over Arkansas Baptist College Saturday afternoon in Birthright Alumni Hall.
Jamariah Turner posted 21 points, five rebounds and four steals to lead the Tigers.
Farrah Pearson had 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor and added five rebounds, while
Raena Suggs chipped in with 10 points, four assists and three steals.
The first quarter was tight for the Tigers (21-4) after the team built an 8-4 lead with a layup from Pearson. However, the Lady Buffaloes went on a 6-0 run to take the lead at 10-8 with 3:42 left.
However, back-to-back layups from
Limaya Batimba aided by a layup from
Hannah Boykin-Williams gave the Tigers a 14-10 advantage and a lead Stillman never relinquished. The Tigers finished the quarter with an 18-16 edge.
The second quarter provided some separation for Stillman as the team outscored ABC 25-8 in the period highlighted by the Tigers achieving a 19-point 43-24 lead at the half after Turner put in a layup with a second on the clock.
Stillman led by as much as 25 points in the third quarter with 3:24 on the clock after Suggs drilled a three-pointer to move the score to 59-34. The Tigers settled on a 67-47 lead heading to the final quarter.
The defense held strong for Stillman in the fourth as the Tigers outscored Arkansas Baptist 22-9 in the final 10 minutes. The largest lead came with just 33 seconds left when
Chayce Matthews hit a layup to put Stillman up 36 points at 89-53, but Jade Fry hit a three-pointer with 23 seconds to cut into the lead and reach the 89-56 final tally.
The Lady Tigers shot 50.7 percent (36-of-71) from the floor, 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from three, and a perfect 100 percent (11-of-11) from the free throw line.
Fry scored 19 points for ABC, while Ariel Jefferson posted a double-double with 16 points and 19 rebounds. Chasity Woodard added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Stillman College returns to action Thursday at home as the Lady Tigers face Voorhees University in HBCU Athletic Conference action. Tip-off in Birthright is set for 5:30 p.m.
