BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The Stillman College softball team opened the 2025 campaign with a split against former conference opponent the Blue Mountain Christian University Lady Toppers thanks to a 6-5 win in game one, but the Tigers suffered a 1-0 loss in the second contest Friday evening.
Game 1 - Stillman 6, Blue Mountain 5
Alex Erwin notched the first RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed
Lauren Haskins to score.
The Lady Tigers followed with two straight homers and flexed their power with a solo homer from
Karli Davidson in the second to left followed by a solo shot from
Avary Lumpkin to center field to take a 3-0 lead.
However, BMCU turned in four straight runs highlighted by two RBIs from Iris Faarve and two more RBIs from Julianna Ingram to take a 4-3 lead after six innings.
In the seventh,
Lily Stone single to right field to knock in
Madison Bubel to tie the game.
Katelyn Lankford followed with a two-RBI single up the middle to bring in Stone and
Chaluncie Denny to give Stillman a 6-4 lead.
The Lady Toppers saw a run come across on an error as Mallory Jo Mitchell scored to reached the 6-5 final in favor of the Lady Tigers.
Haskins finished 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, a run scored, and a walk. Lankford turned in a 2-for-4 outing with two RBIs. Davidson and Lumpkin both had home runs.
Jasmine Wade pitched a complete game with five strikeouts. She allowed eight hits, five earned runs and a pair of walks.
Game 2 - Blue Mountain 1, Stillman 0
Only one run came across for either team in the second contest and it came in the fifth where Skylar Lee used an RBI groundout to short to score Tyra Billy to reach the 1-0 conclusion.
Stone finished the second contest with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate. Buble hit her first double of the season, while Haskins stole her third base of the year.
Faith Byram pitched all six defensive innings with a strikeout. She allowed four walks, just one hit and one earned run.
Stillman College softball returns to action tomorrow in another doubleheader against Blue Mountain Christian scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time for the first game and 3 p.m. for the second contest.
