Softball Drops Both Games of DH to #20 Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – A last-inning rally in game two by the #20 University of Mobile Lady Rams proved to be the difference between salvaging a split or coming up empty handed. The Stillman College softball team fell in both games against Mobile, 15-1 in five innings and 3-2.

GAME ONE - Mobile 15, Stillman 1

The Lady Rams posted 15 unanswered runs with five scores in the second, eight in the third including a grand slam for Madilyn Sheffield, and scored one more in the fourth to take the commanding 15-0 lead.

Katelyn Langford hit a solo home run down the left field line in fifth to avoid the shutout, but the Lady Tigers fell 15-1 to open the midweek doubleheader.

Jasmine Wade (3-1) took her first loss of the season in 1.2 innings of work with three walks, two hits and five earned runs. Avary Lumpkin pitched 0.2 innings of relief with a strikeout, but allowed four walks, two hits and four earned runs. Mackenzie Smith threw the final 1.2 innings and allowed eight hits, a walk and an earned run.

GAME TWO - Mobile 3, Stillman 2

The reigning HBCU Athletic Conference Player of the Week Madison Bubel opened the scoring in the top of the first with a single to right-center field to knock in Lauren Haskins.

Haskins followed in the second inning with a single to right field for an RBI as Chaluncie Denny crossed home plate.

The Lady Tigers' lead held until the bottom of the sixth when Sheffield hit an RBI single to left field. Then in the seventh, Mobile used RBIs from Lucy Spisto and Miah Simmons to capture the lead and hand Stillman a heartbreaking 3-2 road loss.

Denny and Alex Erwin both went 2-fo-3 in the contest with Erwin coming up with a double.

Faith Byram (3-5) pitched all 6.1 innings with a strikeout, but allowed eight walks, seven hits and three earned runs.

Stillman College has some time off and will return to action March 8 on the road for the HBCUAC opener against Talladega (Ala.) College. First pitch for the Saturday doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
