OXFORD, Ala. – The Stillman College softball team posted a strong debut in HBCU Athletic Conference play as the Lady Tigers swept a doubleheader against the Talladega College Tornadoes Saturday evening by the scores of 12-3 and 11-0 with both games ending in five innings at Choccolocco Park.
Game One - Stillman 12, Talladega 3 (5 innings)
Karli Davidson singled to right field to bring in
Madison Bubel in the top of the second.
Lauren Haskins followed with a bases-clearing triple as
Makyleigh Hollinger,
Ariana Lopez, and
Avary Lumpkin came in to score.
Talladega attempted to respond in the bottom of the second with three runs highlighted by a two-RBI triple from Georgia Wagner-Stiles to close the gap to 4-3.
Stillman reopened the lead starting in the second with an RBI-single from Bubel to bring in
Carolyn Carter.
Katelyn Lankford then hit a two-RBI double to score Alex Erin and Bubel.
More runs for the Lady Tigers in the fourth started when
Lily Stone reached first on an error for an RBI as Haskins zoomed in to score. Bubel came with her second RBI of the contest with a single to bring Stone home.
The Lady Tigers put game one on ice in the fifth when Stone hit an RBI-single as Lankford touched home and Carter blasted a double for two RBIs to get Haskins and Hollinger came home to move the score to the 12-3 run-rule final.
Bubel finished the game 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a double, while Haskins went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two triples.
Jasmine Wade pitched all five innings and scattered four hits with a walk allowed.
Game Two - Stillman 11, Talladega 0 (5 innings)
Carter started the action in the first with a triple and an RBI as Haskins came around to score. Bubel was credited with an RBI after she reached on an error, and Carter scored from third.
Then, in the second, Haskins hit her third triple of the day, and this one went for an RBI as Hollinger touched home. Haskins later scored on a wild pitch to move the score to 4-0.
In the third, a Lumpkin single led to an RBI for her and a run scored from Carter. Davidson made her presence felt with a single to bring in Bubel as the Lady Tigers went up 6-0.
Only one run came across in the fourth after
Anna Sullivan received an RBI when Carter scored.
Stillman wrapped the game with a strong fifth inning when
Gracie Fjeldstad notched an RBI-single to bring in
Cassie Willis. Later, Carter cleared the bases with a double for three RIBs as Fjeldstad, Haskins and
Chaluncie Denny all scored to move the score to the 11-0 final.
Carter went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs, three runs scored, a double, a triple and a steal.
Faith Byram pitched a complete game, struck out four batters and scattered two hits.
Stillman College returns to action tomorrow to finish the weekend series with Dega. First pitch is currently scheduled for 2 p.m. in Oxford, Alabama
