Stillman Wins Twice on Saturday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College racked up 24 runs in a non-conference twin bill against Central Baptist College and United States Sports Academy on Saturday. The Tigers took down CBC 13-5 in the first game, and then defeated USSA 11-4 to close the day. Central Baptist and USSA played each other to start the day.
 
GAME 1: STILLMAN 13, CENTRAL BAPTIST 5
 
Avary Lumpkin hit a two-run home run to tie the game in the third inning, followed by a two-run Katelyn Lankford single to put Stillman in front. Lumpkin added a sac fly in the fourth inning for her third RBI. Madison Bubel singled in a run in the fourth, but the Mustangs cut the lead in half, 7-5, over the next two innings.
 
Stillman put the game away with a six-run sixth inning on a trio of two-run doubles by Makyleigh Hollinger, Alex Erwin and Lily Stone.
 
Faith Byram (3-4) pitched five innings for the win, while Lumpkin took over with a two-run lead and closed out the top of the sixth for her first save in a Tiger uniform.
 
Lakford hit 3-for-3 in the game, while Lauren Haskings was 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs scored. Bubel and Carolyn Carter each had two hits.
GAME 2: STILLMAN 11, USSA 4
 
Haskins' hot bat continued in the second game, hitting 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs and a stolen base. Her three-run home run in the third inning broke the game open, 7-1. Bubel drove in a run in each the first and third innings and scored on a passed ball in the third inning. Erwin also singled in a run in the third.
 
Stillman was looking to run rule the Sports Academy in the fifth inning, but USSA plated three runs in the top of the inning off relief pitcher Mackenzie Smith. Cassie Willis and Lankford both doubled in a run in the fifth. Stillman tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning with Haskins scoring on a passed ball and Gracie Fjeldstad on a Carter double.
 
Hollinger hit 3-for-4 in the win. Bubel and Willis each had two hits.
 
Smith collected the win in relief, pitching four innings without allowing an earned run. Jasmine Wade started the game and pitched three innings with four strikeouts.
 
NEXT: Stillman (9-5) will travel to No. 20 University of Mobile on Wednesday, Feb. 26 for its first Top 25 doubleheader of the season.
