DENMARK, S.C. – The Stillman College women's basketball team took to the road for the first time in Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference action for the first time this season, and the Stillman Tigers came away with a 55-41 victory over the Voorhees University Tigers on Thursday afternoon.
Stillman improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the HBCUAC, while Voorhees fell to 3-6 on the season and 0-3 in the conference.

Voorhees controlled the low-scoring opening quarter and pushed to a 9-4 after Kaelin Davis hit a layup to cap a 9-4 run with 4:30 on the clock. At the 1:41 mark, Teyzia Lathan hit a shot to cut the lead to 10-8, but Voorhees led by five at the end of the quarter when a free throw by Lathan made the score 13-8.
Jaida Minter hit a three-pointer with 7:07 to go to tie the ball game at 13-13. Then at 5:38,
Mya Jones connected on a layup to move the score to 15-13 and give Stillman the lead for good. Stillman led by seven points on two occasions in the quarter, including after a jumper from Lathan with 1:32 to make the score 24-17. The Tigers took a 24-19 lead to the locker room.
Stillman maintained an eight-point lead for the majority of the third quarter and led by 10 points twice, but a pair of layups from Voorhees late in the period cut the lead to 34-28 after 30 minutes of play.
A pair of free throws from
Tanyah Lockhart put Stillman up 43-28 with 6:45 to go. The 15-point lead marked the largest margin in the contest and was matched at 5:22 following a three-pointer from
Danyjhia Williams. Stillman maintained a double-digit lead on the way to a 55-41 victory over Voorhees.
Notes and Numbers:
-For the fourth time this season,
Jaida Minter led in scoring with 14 points, was the only Tiger in double figures and added three steals.

Mya Jones added eight points and tied for the lead on the boards with eight rebounds alongside eight rebounds from
Tenyzia Lathan.
-Stillman out rebounded Voorhees 38-34 and finished with 17 second-chance points compared to just eight for Voorhees.
