AUSTIN, Texas — The Stillman College women's basketball team faced the University of the Virgin Islands Buccaneers on the second day of the Tiffany Jackson HBCU Classic, and the Tigers came away with a 60-44 victory Saturday afternoon in Branch Gymnasium.
Stillman improved to 3-2 with the victory, while UVI fell to 2-3.

Stillman and UVI played evenly until back-to-back three-pointers from Cmeria Reed and
Jaida Minter pushed the Tigers' lead to 11-4 with 2:37 on the clock. The defense held strong against the Bucs and limited them to just two more points in the quarter. A layup by
Tyeesha Slaughter with a second remaining gave Stillman an 18-6 advantage after a quarter.
The Tigers pushed out to a 19-point lead when
Tenyzia Lathan hit a shot to move the tally to 25-6. UVI's offense went on a 10-point run after a three from Ashlynn Lemos moved the score to 25-16. However, the Bucs only scored one more point in the period, and a layup from Reed capped the quarter at 31-17.
The third quarter belonged to the Bucs after UVI cut the lead all the way to five after free throws from Kashay Bass moved the score to 41-36 with 1:31 on the clock. Stillman briefly pushed the lead to seven points, but a free throw from Atalia Thomas to end the quarter gave the Bucs some life, and they trailed 43-37 after three quarters.
Free throws from Bass at the 7:37 mark moved the score to 46-41 in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers showed resolve and built the lead all the way to 16 points after
Tanyah Lockhart hit a layup with 40 seconds left to capture a 60-44 win.

Jaida Minter registered her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Jordan Harris notched a double-double off the bench thanks to 12 points and 13 rebounds.
-Stillman out-rebounded UVI, 53-46.
-Despite both institutions being members of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference, the game does not count in the HBCUAC standings, with UVI being in the west division and Stillman being in the east division.
