TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Stillman women's basketball team opened HBCUAC play on Saturday at Birthright Alumni Hall, defeating Wilberforce by a tally of 65-56. Senior
Jordan Harris led all scorers with 16 points while shooting 75% from the floor, and she has now reached double figures in three of her last five contests.
Rapid Recap:
Wilberforce controlled the opening tip, but it was Stillman's Teyzia Lathan that started the scoring at the other end of the floor. Asia Cochran came off the bench to give the Bulldogs six first quarter points and a 15-13 lead after the first ten minutes.
Four different Wilberforce players knocked down a triple in the second quarter, but Stillman stayed within striking distance, trailing by only four at the intermission. The third quarter saw the Tigers cut the deficit to as little as two, but the home team managed to save their best stretch for the fourth quarter.
A Lathan block led to a transition layup for
Jayla West Young two and a half minutes into the fourth, and a foul in the paint made it a three-point play. Stillman never looked back the rest of the way, as Wilberforce never led for the duration of the afternoon.
The Tigers went on a tear in the final chapter, closing out the game on an 18-7 run behind eight from Harris along the way. Stillman's defense shined over the final ten minutes, forcing their counterparts into a 3-for-14 shooting effort and eight turnovers in the fourth quarter alone.

Wilberforce won the rebounding battle by a margin of 45-41, but Stillman claimed a 21-17 advantage in turnovers. Jaida Winter led the team with eight boards, and nine different Tigers found the bottom of the net in the win.
