Women’s Basketball Dominant in First Win of Season

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Stillman College women's basketball team grabbed the first win of the Jamarra Robinson era as the Tigers defeated the Brenton-Parker Christian University Barons 76-43 Saturday afternoon in Birthright Alumni Hall. 

The Tigers improved to 1-1 on the young season, while BPCU fell to 1-1. 

Rapid Recap:

After both teams battled to meet at 8-8 with 4:02 on the first quarter clock, Jaida Minter connected on a jump shot to put Stillman as part of a 7-2 run by the Tigers, which helped Stillman take a 17-10 lead after the first quarter. 

The Stillman lead pushed to as much as 14 points after a pair of Minter free throws moved the tally to 32-18 with 2:37 before halftime. Mya Jones connected on a three-pointer with 34 seconds to give the Tigers a 15-point, 36-21 advantage heading to the locker room. 

Brewton-Parker outscored Stillman 15-11 in the third quarter, led by six points from Tia Floyd, but the Tigers still held a 47-36 lead after three periods of action. 

The Tigers turned in a nearly perfect from the floor fourth quarter and won the 10-minute stanza 29-7. Stillman finished the period 78.6 percent (11-of-14) from the floor and 75 percent (3-of-4) from beyond the arc. The defense held the Barons to 23.1 percent (3-of-13) throughout the quarter. The dominant period helped Stillman collect a 76-43 victory. 

Notes and Numbers:

-Jaida Minter reached double figures for the second game in a row. The senior from Dallas, Texas, posted 23 points along with six assists, five steals and five rebounds. 
-Mya Jones continues to serve well in a reserve role as she reached double-digit points for the second time off the bench with 14 points. 
-Teyzia Lathan and Jayla Young West both scored 10 points. 
-Jordan Harris and Young West tied for the team lead in boards with seven rebounds each.
