Women’s Basketball Opens with Loss to Mobile

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Stillman College women's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season under new head coach Jamarra Robinson with a 67-53 setback to the University of Mobile Rams on Friday morning in Birthright Alumni Hall. 

The Lady Tigers (0-1) start the season with a loss, while Mobile grabs a season-opening win. 

Rapid Recap:

Stillman controlled the early portion of the opening quarter and raced to an 8-2 lead after a pair of Jaida Minter free throws. However, a Mobile run closed the gap and gave the Rams a 9-8 lead with 3:28 in the period before Jordan Harris seized it right back for the Lady Tigers with a layup at the 2:43 mark. The quarter featured two more lead changes and a tie, but Stillman ended the first quarter with a 14-13 advantage. 

The contest stayed close in the second, with Mobile jumping ahead 17-14 with a layup from Jarniya Maddox. Stillman responded with a 9-0 run, capped by a pair of free throws from Teyzia Lathan to move the score to 23-17 with 4:12 until half. The Rams concluded the quarter with a 28-27 lead after Maddox made a jumpshot with five seconds until halftime. 

In the third quarter, the Lady Tigers went up by as much as six points when Jordan Harris connected on two free throws with 3:01 on the clock to move the score to 42-36. Unfortunately, Mobile caught fire down the stretch of the quarter with an 11-0 run to take a 47-42 lead to the final quarter. 

The Rams built some distance between themselves and Stillman in the fourth quarter, as Mobile went up as much as by 19 points at the 1:17 mark. Free throws by Mya Jones in the final minute helped the Lady Tigers close the gap on the final score, but the Rams took a 67-53 win. 

Notes and Numbers:
-As a team, the Lady Tigers shot 67.9 percent (19-of-28) from the free throw line. 
-In her Stillman debut, Mya Jones led the way with 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals,
-Jayla Young West posted 10 points, five rebounds and two assists; Jaida Minter added 10 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
