Women’s Basketball Earns 84-65 Win over Mobile

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Nothing is given and everything is earned. The Stillman College women's basketball team experienced all of the mantra with a gritty, 84-65 win over the University of Mobile Rams Thursday night in Birthright Alumni Hall.

The win moves Stillman to 18-4 on the season and currently on a six-game winning streak. Meanwhile, Mobile falls to 17-4 and as the loss snapped a 12-game winning streak for the Rams.

The Lady Tigers put together a dominant first half. Stillman opened the game on a 10-0 run and the first bucket for the Rams did not come until 2:02 on the clock. The Lady Tigers left the period ahead 17-2.

The defense continued to dominate in the second quarter as Stillman outscored Mobile 23-6 in the period after Raena Suggs buried a three to give the Lady Tigers a 32-point, 40-8 lead at the half.

Mobile responded with a slight rally in the third quarter as the offense started to click for the Rams and the team outscored the Lady Tigers 25-21 during the stretch to cut the lead to 28 points as the scoreboard read 61-33.

Then in the fourth, the Rams turned up the defensive intensity and opened the period on an 18-0 run to cut the lead to 61-51 before Farrah Pearson hit a layup to end the run with 7:04 to go in the period. The lead dwindled to just seven points after Alanna Donaldson hit a free throw to move the score to 65-58 with 5:46 to go.

However, the Lady Tigers showed poise down the stretch and reopened a double-digit lead throughout the rest of the quarter and pushed to a 19-point, 84-65 win in front of a rabid Tiger fan base.
