TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Meeting for the first time in program history, Stillman College women's basketball sailed past the University of Virgin Islands Buccaneers, 82-44, Friday night on Day 1 of the HBCU Athletic Conference Crossover in Birthright Alumni Hall.
Playing its first season in the HBCU Athletic Conference, Stillman's 82 points are the most in program history in a HBCUAC game. The 44 points allowed and 38-point win margin are also program bests for Stillman in HBCUAC action.
Virgin Islands jumped out a 6-0 lead to open the game, but a
Jamariah Turner basket, steal and layup sparked Stillman's offense.
Jaida Minter's 3-pointer five minutes into the game gave Stillman its first lead, 11-8. It was her first of four 3s as part of 14 points in the first half to help Stillman to a 43-23 halftime lead. She finished with 16 points.
Stillman shot better than 50% in the first half and finished the game with a 48.6% field goal percentage. The Tigers scored 54 points in the paint and had 33 points of UVI's 30 turnovers.
Ashukamay'ah Phillips led UVI with 12 points.
Stillman (12-3, 7-0 HBCUAC) will host Wiley College at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4 on Day 2 of the HBCUAC Crossover. The crossover in Tuscaloosa features East Division teams against West Division Teams in a total of 24 games across four days in Birthright Alumni Hall.
