TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College women's volleyball won its second-straight HBCU Athletic Conference match Tuesday, defeating Oakwood University, 3-1, in Birthright Alumni Hall. It is the first win over the Oakwood Ambassadors since Stillman restored its volleyball program in 2022.
The win moves Stillman (3-7, 2-1 HBCUAC) to 3-0 at home for the first time in more than 15 years.
The Tigers opened the match with a 25-22 win over Oakwood in the first set, as Stillman won seven-straight sets for the first time since 2015. Oakwood bounced back to take the second set, 25-21, but Stillman put away the third set, 25-12, and battled to finish the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.
Freshman
Ava Cameron powered Stillman's offense with 10 kills.
Katelyn Lawson and
Paige Eason each had seven kills, while
Raine Patterson added six and
Aeraeonna Manuel had five.
Kelis Conley had a season-high 21 assists and 10 digs, while
Erin Nelson had 14 assists, helping Stillman break its NAIA-era program record with 41 total assists.
Emily Powell led the Tigers with 20 digs, her most against an HBCU Athletic Conference opponent so far this season, while Eason added 17 digs. Stillman's 71 total digs are the most against a conference opponent since joining the NAIA in 2022.
Oakwood's attack was led by Mona Okello and Kamaria Murray, each with seven kills.
The Tigers also set NAIA-era program records with 43 total kills and 63 points scored.
Stillman (3-7, 2-1 HBCUAC) will host the University of West Alabama in non-conference action for 80s Night on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. Â
