TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - For the first time in 25 years, Stillman College met the University of West Alabama on the volleyball court. Stillman took the first set 25-17, but was unable to push past West Alabama in the next three sets (25-22, 25-21, 25-16), falling, 3-1. The last time the two programs met was 2009.
The loss is Stillman's first at home this season, as its NCAA Division II opponent recorded its first victory of the season.
Jaida Alvin had 12 kills to lead West Alabama. Taylor Lamontagne had 14 assists and four aces, while Berfin Mertcan had 10 assists and three aces.
Stillman (3-8, 2-1 HBCUAC) will return to HBCU Athletic Conference on Tuesday, Sept. 24 with a trip to defending conference champion Talladega College. The previously scheduled match at Rust College this Saturday, Sept. 21, has been postponed.
