Stillman Softball Sweeps Senior Day for 30th Victory

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Stillman College wrapped up a pair of 4-1 Senior Day victories over Blue Mountain Christian Unviersity on Saturday, moving the Tigers to their second-straight 30-win season.

Senior pitchers Lexi McCray (14-1) and Elisabeth Boso (6-0) recorded the wins in the circle, each pitching 6.2 innings before exiting to a curtain call at the Stillman Softball Complex. 

Lauren Haskins hit 4-for-7 on the day with two RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Senior outfielder Talyor Roland had two hits, two runs scored and one RBI, and Madison Bubel had two hits and one RBI. The Tigers collected one hit apiece from seniors Bailie Seales, Anniston Jones and Ivey Moreland.

GAME 1: STILLMAN 4, BMCU 1

After giving up a run in the top of the third, Stillman tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Lauren Haskins beat out a bunt single before advancing to second on a line out to left field. Bailie Seales then drove her home for Stillman's first run of the day.

The Tigers added three more runs in the fifth inning. Senior Katelynn Madison was hit by a pitch to start the inning, followed by a Haskins bunt single that rolled through the hole at short. A wild pitch advanced both runners before Taylor Roland walked to load the bases. Seales then gave Stillman the lead with a sac fly to center and her second RBI of the day. Madison Bubel and Anniston Jones followed with RBI singles. Stillman left the bases loaded. 

Lexi McCray allowed one earned run off five hits and one walk. Jasmine Wade earned her second save of the season, taking over for McCray in the seventh. 


GAME 2: STILLMAN 4, BMCU 1

Elisabeth Boso received a four-run cushion from her offense in the bottom of the second inning to support her in her final career home start in the circle. Senior outfielder Carolyn Carter reached on an error at short and moved to second when the ball was booted in the outfield. Later with one out, Ivey Moreland singled to put runners at the corners. Chaluncey Denny ran for Moreland and both players scored on a Lauren Haskins double to center. Taylor Roland followed with a RBI double and scored on a Madison Bubel single. 

Boso pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the fifth with the help of Bailie Seales defens at shortstop, first by Seales throwing out a runner at home, and then firing an out to senior Paisley Wilson at first base. 

Blue Mountain scored its lone run in the top of the seventh inning when Sam Whitwell and Jaydn Yarbro singled with one out. A passed ball moved up the runners. Whitwell scored on an infield hit by Skyler Lee off Stillman reliver Faith Byram. The unearned run was charged to Boso, who gave up five hits and a walk. She hit one batter and struck out one in her final game on campus. Byram struck out Evi Edwards to end the game. 


SENIOR DAY: Prior to the game, 10 seniors were honored in Senior Day festivities: Carolyn Carter, Taylor Roland, Katelynn Madison, Elisabeth Boso, Bailie Seales, Paisley Wilson, Anniston Jones, Sara Kate Nichols, Lexi McCray and Ivey Moreland.


NEXT: Stillman (30-8, 14-8 SSAC) is scheduled to conclude the regular season with a pair of NAIA Top 25 doubleheaders next weekend, traveling to No. 15 University of Mobile on Friday, April 26 and No. 18 William Carey University on Saturday, April 27.
