CORINTH, Miss. - A sixth-inning rally completed Stillman College's sweep of Blue Mountain Christian University in the Tigers' Southern States Athletic Conference opener Saturday. Stillman (18-0, 2-0 SSAC) took the first game 5-2 and then defeated BMCU 3-2 at Corinth High School to open SSAC play 2-0 and sit atop the conference standings.
Anniston Jones led Stillman with three hits on the day, while
Taylor Roland,
Madison Bubel and
Carolyn Carter each had two hits.
GAME 1: STILLMAN 6, BLUE MOUNTAIN 2
A four-run top of the fourth helped Stillman record a win in its first SSAC game. A pair of walks and an
Anniston Jones single worked the bases loaded with two outs in the fourth inning. The first run scored on a passed ball before
Taylor Roland singled in one run and
Lauren Haskins singled to drive in two more.
Katelynn Madison,
Ivey Moreland and
Madison Bubel loaded the bases in the fifth inning. The first two were hit by pitches.
Bailie Seales then grounded out to drive in Madison for a 5-2 lead. An insurance scored in the top of the seventh on an error.
Lexi McCray (6-0) recorded her second win of the week in the circle, allowing only one earned run off eight hits in the complete game.
GAME 2: STILLMAN 3, BLUE MOUNTAIN 2
Trailing 2-0 entering the fourth inning, Karli Davidson delivered an RBI single to put the Tigers on the board, 2-1. The score held until Stillman loaded the bases in the top of the sixth inning. With two outs,
Anniston Jones singled in the game-tying and winning runs.
Jones hit 2-for-3 in the game and finished the day with three total hits.
Iris Farve hit 3-for-3 to lead BMCU, including a two-run single in the top of the third that gave Blue Mountain its 2-0 lead.
Elisabaeth Boso (5-0) shutout the Toppers through 4 1/3 innings of relief work to earn the win. She allowed three hits and struck out five.
Faith Byram was the starter, allowing two runs off four hits and two walks.
NEXT: Stillman (18-0, 2-0 SSAC) will travel to Pulaski, Tennessee on Sunday to meet Tennessee Southern for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
