COCHRAN, Ga. - Stillman College softball recorded its third-straight NAIA Top 25 split on Sunday, defeating No. 20 Middle Georgia State University 3-2 before falling to the Knights, 3-2 in eight innings during Game 2. The games were labeled the Southern States Athletic Conference Series of the Week.
Ivey Moreland had three hits to lead Stillman's offense on the day.
Stilman (22-4, 6-4 SSAC) will travel to Brewton-Parker College on Monday for a doubleheader beginning at noon ET.
GAME 1: STILLMAN 3, MIDDLE GEORGIA 2
Lexi McCray improved to 10-0 on the season with her third-straight complete-game victory over an NAIA Top 25 opponent.
The Knights pushed across a run in the first and second innings on RBI singles from Madisyn Riggins and Carmen Phillips to take a 2-0 lead. Stillman rallied to load the bases in the top of the fifth inning.
Ivey Moreland delivered a two-out, two-run single to tie the game, 2-2. In the top of the seventh,
Taylor Roland tripled to center and scored on a game-winning single by
Lauren Haskins.
McCray pitched out of a jam in the bottom of the sixth, leaving two Knights on base and stranded one runner in the bottom of the seventh.
Moreland, Roland and Haskins were joined by
Bailie Seales and
Anniston Jones with one hit apiece.
GAME 2: MIDDLE GEORGIA 3, STILLMAN 2 (8 INNINGS)
Stillman jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Katelynn Madison and
Ivey Moreland collected one-out singles to set up an RBI single by
Madison Bubel to score Madison.
Chaluncie Denny pinch ran for Moreland and scored on an error at shortstop.
Middle Georgia answered with a two-run second inning on RBI singles by Carmen Phillips and Taylor Layne.
The Tigers were held hitless in the second through fifth innings. Moreland singled to start the sixth inning but was left stranded.
Madisyn Riggins doubled to start the bottom of the eighth. After the bases were worked loaded, Riggins scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly to center field by Christina Zeppa.
Jasmine Wade (4-1) pitched the complete game for Stillman.
