Tigers Sweep Softball Home Opener

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Sophomore pitchers Faith Byram (2-0) and Jasmine Wade (1-0) each recorded wins in the circle Friday without allowing an earned run as Stillman College swept Oakwood University, 2-1 and 18-1, in the Tigers' softball home opener.

Lauren Haskins hit 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead Stillman.

Stillman (6-0) is now riding a six-game win streak and has out-scored opponents 56-9 through its first seven days of the season. The Tigers are hitting .394 as a team, which leads the Southern States Athletic Conference and ranks eighth nationally in the NAIA.

The Tigers are scheduled to travel to NCAA Division III Birmingham-Southern College on Saturday morning for a 10 a.m. doubleheader.

GAME 1: STILLMAN 2, OAKWOOD 1

All runs were scored in the third inning during Stillman's first home game of the season. Kaylen Fuller singled with two outs. After the inning was extended by an error, Fuller scored on an RBI single by Alexis Copeland.

Stillman tied the game with an unearned run in the bottom of the third. Taylor Roland ripped a triple to right field to score Anniston Jones. Roland then scored the winning run on a Haskins sacrifice fly.
Byram allowed five hits and two walks through five innings. Elisabeth Boso recorded her first save, allowing two hits and a walk through two scoreless innings.

STILLMAN 18, OAKWOOD 1

Stillman scored five in the first inning, four in each the second and third innings, and five more in the fourth to take an 18-0 lead in Game 2. Wade had a one-hit shutout going through 4.2 innings, but an error put Oakwood's Anna Jones on base. A double to center scored Oakwood's only run before Wade completed the game.

Ten different players had hits for Stillman in the game, and 11 scored runs. Haskins, Kaela Boyd, Ivey Moreland and Karlie Davidson each had two hits in the game. Moreland, Davidson and Carolyn Carter drove in three runs apiece. Carter's RBIs came on a bases-loaded triple to right field in the first inning.

Chaluncie Denny, Katelyn Madison, Gracie Fjeldstad, Bailie Seales and Paisley Wilson also had a hit in the game.

Wade allowed two hits and struck out two in the complete game. She did not walk a batter in her first appearance of the season.
