BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Seventh-inning heroics helped Stillman College complete a doubleheader sweep Saturday morning at Birmingham-Southern College, 6-3 and 5-4. The Tigers' wins moved them to 8-0 on the season with wins against NAIA, NCAA Division II and now NCAA Division III competition.
Madison Bubel and
Katelynn Madison each had three hits to lead Stillman in the doubleheader.
GAME 1: STILLMAN 6, BSC 3
Birmingham-Southern scored in the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead in its season opener Saturday morning, but Stillman posted a four-spot in the top of the third.
Bubel doubled to right to tie the game, while she and
Katelyn Lankford scored on a
Bailie Seales single to take a 4-2 lead.
Anniston Jones singled with one out in the top of the fourth. With two outs,
Lauren Haskins hit a ball deep down the right field line and raced around the bags for a two-run inside-the-park home run, scoring pinch runner
Sara Kate Nichols on the play. (

Lexi McCray started the game in the circle, but
Jasmine Wade (2-0) recorded the win after five innings of relief.
Jones and Bubel each had two hits in the win.
GAME 2: STILLMAN 5, BSC 4
Stillman took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Karli Davidson sac fly to score
Bailie Seales. However, BSC hung three runs on the Tigers in the bottom of the fourth to lead, 3-1.
Carolyn Carter came through in the top of the fifth, doubling to right to score two and tie the game. Karli Davidson followed with an RBI single to take the lead. BSC tied it again in the bottom of the sixth on a Katie Hart RBI single.
With one out in the seventh, Davidson singled to left and later scored the winning run on a
Taylor Roland single to right.
The Panthers looked to rally in the last half inning, but Stillman's defense stood strong. With one out,
Bailie Seales robbed Olivia trout of a potential extra-base hit with a leaping snag at shortstop.
Lexi McCray (3-0) then struck out Jaley Davis swinging on a full count to earn the win in relief. McCray had two strikeouts in two perfect innings of relief work.
Davidson and Carter each had two hits and two RBI in the game, while
Katelynn Madison and Roland also had two hits.
Madison Bubel had the other hit for Stillman.
