TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Homecoming Saturday started off hot, as Stillman College women's basketball blew past Life University, 75-54, in the Southern States Athletic Conference Game of the Week.
While the win didn't move Stillman (15-9, 9-7 SSAC) above sixth in the SSAC, it did even the Tigers with fifth-place Life in conference losses, as Life closed out its conference schedule with an 11-7 SSAC record.
Raena Suggs dropped 20 points on the Running Eagles, while Thaniya Marks (15),
Jamariah Turner (13) and
Farrah Pearson (11) also scored in double digits. Stillman shot 52.6% from 3-point range during the game, draining 10 3-pointers, and sank all but one free throw (9-of-10).
Kashara Preston hit a 3 to end a tight first quarter and sparked a momentum the Tigers didn't lose. With 15-point first half for Suggs Suggs paced the Tigers to a 44-27 halftime lead. Stillman closed the half on a 9-0 run. Stillman led by no less than 15 points in the second half. The Tigers led by 20 or more points for the last 14:25 of action. The largest third-quarter lead was 27 points, 61-34, following a
JaMesha King jumper with two minutes left.
Farrah Pearson hit a 3-pointer midway in the fourth quarter to give Stillman its largest lead of the game, 28 points, at 71-43.
Life was led by Brionna Sims' 14 points and Maeisha Teasley's 12 points.
