TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Playing their fourth game in six days, Stillman College women's basketball was unable to complete a sweep of Faulkner University on Wednesday, falling 67-49 in non-conference action.
Raena Suggs hit a 3 late in the first quarter to give Stillman a 9-8 lead, followed a minute later by a
Limaya Batimba layup to regain Stillman's lead. However, each time Stillman tied or took the lead, Faulkner's Ruthie Smith had an answer, scoring 10 of her 24 points in the first quarter. The Tigers did not lead again, trailing 35-21 at the half.
Jaida Minter led Stillman with 16 points.
Lelia Henderson had 14 points.
Stillman was held to 33% shooting from the floor and only 16.7% from the 3-point arc on 18 attempts. Faulkner dominated the glass with 53 rebounds to Stillman's 28.
Smith added 10 rebounds to her 24 points for a double-double. Grace Anne Rose also had a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards, while Nequoia Adams scored 10 points.
Stillman (11-4, 6-0 HBCUAC) will break for Christmas and return to action at home on Jan. 3 when it hosts an HBCU Athletic Conference Crossover. There will be 24 games played in Birthright Alumni Hall between Jan. 3-7.
