NEW ORLEANS - Ten Tiger players scored Monday as Stillman College women's basketball won its fourth-straight game, 61-52 over Southern University at New Orleans, to sweep the HBCU Athletic Conference Crossover.
Stillman led throughout the game with Powell hitting a 3 to give the Tigers their first double-digit lead, 13-2, with three minutes to play in the first quarter. Once Stillman went up by 10, its margin slipped to single digits only two times late in the first quarter.
Farrah Pearson's basket to open the second quarter pushed the lead to 19-8 and sparked an 11-0 Stillman run.
The Tigers led 39-17 at halftime and grew their lead to 21 points, 47-26, in the third quarter. SUNO chipped away in the fourth quarter to make it a 59-52 game with a minute left, but neither team made another field goal. Henderson sank two late free throws for Stillman.
Stillman closes its first semester conference slate at 6-0 in HBCUAC play. The Tigers (11-2) will host Faulkner University on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 5:30 p.m. before taking 15 days off between games. Tickets are $5 with the donation of a non-perishable food item for the West Alabama Food Bank. Stillman will return from its winter break on Jan. 3 when it hosts a 24-game men's and women's HBCUAC Crossover from Jan. 3-7 in Birthright Alumni Hall.
