TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College women's basketball opened its 2024-2025 home schedule with a 92-70 victory over the University of Tennessee Southern on Saturday to close out Founder's Week.
Raena Suggs paced Stillman with 29 points on 11-of-19 shooting. She had four steals, six rebounds and two assists.
Jaida Minter scored 15 points, while Jamaria Turner had a double-double 14 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three steals.
Trailing by eight points, 12-4, early in the first quarter, Suggs scored the next 11 points for Stillman to take a 15-14 lead.
Limaya Batimba followed with a steal and fast break layup. While UTS tied the score, 21-21, on an Ashley Dickey 3-pointer, Minter answered with a 3. Stillman didn't trail again. A Turner 3 with less than five minutes to play in the first half gave Stillman its first 10-point lead.
The Tigers opened the fourth quarter on a 17-3 run to lead by 24 points, 79-55. Stillman held UT Southern to 23% shooting in the fourth quarter, while the Tigers shot 61% from the floor.
Stillman (2-1) will host Miles College on Monday, Nov. 11 at 5:30 p.m. It will be the third-straight year the two teams have met and the second time Stillman has hosted the Golden Bears since the rivalry was halted in 2016 when Stillman moved to the NAIA.
