Stillman Women Win Seventh-Straight Game

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The best November in Stillman College women's basketball history was completed Thursday night as the Tigers defeated Oakwood University, 70-60, to start the season with an 7-1 record. Stillman is now 3-0 atop the HBCU Athletic Conference East Division.
Playing in her hometown, freshman Limaya Batimba led Stillman with a double-double 13 points and 11 rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench. Lelia Henderson also scored 13 points.
The Tigers trailed the entire first quarter, including a 15-6 deficit. Paced by five points from Batimba, Stillman opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run to take the lead. Huntsville native Farrah Pearson's jumper put Stillman on top, 21-20, and the Tigers never looked back. Late in the first half, Pearson assisted a Raena Suggs jumper to give Stillman its first double-digit lead of the game, 35-24.
Stillman led 36-27 at the half. Another Huntsville product, Jamariah Turner, gave Stillman its largest lead of the third quarter at 17 points, 53-36, after scoring consecutive baskets. The largest lead of the game was 19 points, 65-46, on a fastbreak steal and layup by London Wooley.
Eleven Tiger players scored in the game. Jaida Minter followed Batimba and Henderson with nine points.
Oakwood was led by freshman Saniya Keys' 16 points and nine rebounds.
Stillman (7-1, 3-0 HBCAUC) is now riding an seven-game win streak, the longest since 2016-17. After Thanksgiving break, Stillman will host Freed-Hardeman University (9-0) in a non-conference game Dec. 3 at 5:30 p.m. in Birthright Alumni Hall.
