Stillman Women Extend Win Streak with HBCUAC Debut Win

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss -- Stillman College women's basketball extended its win streak to four games Thursday night with a 67-62 win over Rust College in the Tigers' debut in the HBCU Athletic Conference. It is the second time in the last four years Stillman has defeated its conference's defending champion on its home court and the second time in three years Stillman has won at Rust. The Tigers beat the Southern State Athletic Conference defending champions, Loyola University, in New Orleans in 2022.
Jaida Minter scored 15 points to lead Stillman past Rust, including hitting all eight of her free throws, while Raena Suggs contributed 14 points off the bench. The starting five contributed 46 points in the game. Hannah Boykin-Williams was third on the team in scoring with 11 points, while playing the full 40 minutes. Farrah Pearson and Jamariah Turner each scored nine points.

The Tigers trailed by six points late in the first half before Boykin-Williams hit a 3 to make it 34-31 Rust at halftime. Stillman trailed nearly all of the third quarter until a steal by Pearson steal set up a Minter layup with 44 seconds to play in the quarter to regain Stillman's lead, 48-47. The lead swapped hands six times over the next nine minutes, but Suggs' back-to-back 3-pointers in the final two minutes of the game gave Stillman a 65-60 lead. Minter hit two free throws in the final 40 seconds to ice the game.

Stillman (4-1, 1-0 HBCUAC) will host Fisk University on Saturday at 1 p.m. for its home conference opener. It will be the first home basketball doubleheader for Stillman this year. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable and canned food items for donation to the West Alabama Food Bank.
