Tigers Outlast Thomas for a 58-53 Road Win

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Stillman College women's basketball team opened the 2024 half of the season with a hard-fought 58-53 road win over the Thomas University Night Hawks Thursday night in the TU Gymnasium in Southern States Athletic Conference action.
 
Farrah Pearson led the way for the Tigers (7-6, 2-4 SSAC) with 16 points, including an 8-for-10 effort from the free throw line, eight rebounds and four assists. Jamariah Turner and Kashara Preston both scored nine points.
 
Stillman entered the hotly contested fourth quarter with a 44-34 lead; however, TU (3-12, 1-5 SSAC) put together a 15-4 run to grab a 49-48 with 2:39 left and pull ahead of the Tigers for the first time all game. Turner responded seconds later to reclaim the advantage at 51-49 with a three-ball off an assist from Danyjhia Williams.
 
Pearson took over in the final 90 seconds with consecutive layups to push the SC lead to 55-50 with 53 seconds to go. Preston hit a free throw, followed by two more from Pearson with two seconds left to lift Stillman to a 58-53 win.
 
The Tigers posted a 34.5 percent (19-of-55) effort from the floor, shot 30.4 percent (7-of-23) beyond the arc, and finished 65 percent (13-of-20) at the free throw line.
 
Ryann Woodley posted a game high 17 points alongside five rebounds to lead Thomas. Dejah Wilson added 15 points, six rebounds and four steals.
 
The Night Hawks shot 37 percent (20-of-54) from the floor, 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from three, and 69.2 percent (9-of-13) at the charity stripe.
 
Stillman led for 96.9 percent of the game and nearly 39 minutes while Thomas spent a brief 41 seconds on top.
 
The Tigers return to action Tuesday against Miles College. Tipoff in Fairfield, Alabama is set for 5:30 p.m.
