TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College's fifth-straight women's basketball victory in eight days proved to be the Tigers' largest win over a Southern States Athletic Conference opponent in program history. The Tigers shot 55% to defeat Blue Mountain Christian University by 39 points, 86-47, Monday night in a makeup game from Jan. 20.
All 11 Stillman players who played scored in the game, led by
Thaniyah Marks' 16 points and
Raena Suggs' 15 points.
Jumping out to a 19-0 lead, Stillman shot 76.9% in the first quarter. Five of the first six shots were 3-pointers, including three from
Kashara Preston. The Tigers' largest lead in the first half was 33 points, 50-17, following a Preston 3 with a minute left. She added another 3 to keep the Tigers ahead by 32 at the half, 52-20. Preston finished with 14 points in the game.
Late in the third quarter, a
Jamariah Turner 3-pointer gave Stillman its largest lead of the game, 71-30. She went on to score 12 points. It was one of three times the Tigers led by 40 or more down the stretch.
The Tigers had 10 steals and scored 19 points off BMCU turnovers.
Stillman (12-7, 7-5 SSAC) will now travel to No. 15 Loyola University in New Orleans on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 5:30 p.m.
